The electronics (radar, GPS navigation and sonar) provide for safe operation in the worst weather and wave conditions on Lake Michigan and other inland lakes

The boat will be staffed with a helmsman and a minimum of one other crew member

Department member training is done in conjunction with the US Coast Guard and in accord with their standards

The department can now provide service to all areas of Glen ArborTownship including South Manitou Island

Water-related incidences have been increasing over the past 10 years; the Department can now respond to incidents that it previously had to defer to other agencies

The Department can now provide coverage to the 35 miles of coastline within its coverage area

Fire Suppression

The boat can pump water more than 1000 feet away from any lake boundary. This increases the fire protection rating of the Department

78% of the assessed property values are within 1000’ of the water

71% of the structures are now within the required fire flow rating with the addition of the fire boat
